Return to Mountain Bike Race Schedule

Q Can I register at the race?
A Yes. You can register on race day. There is an added $10 fee for registering on‘the day-of,’ and you must register between 4 and 5:30 p.m. at the race location.

Q Why is it more expensive to register the day of the race?
A
We offer a discount on the entry fee for people who pre-register to encourage riders to sign up early. This allows us to focus more of our attention at the race on running a kick-ass event. The cost is $25 to preregister  by fax, online or at the VRD office. Preregistration is due by 5 p.m. on the Monday prior to the race.

Q Do you have any online registration?
A Yes. Click here.

Q Can I register for the entire race series?
A Yes. We encourage all riders to register for the entire race series to save time and money. By registering for the entire series, riders get one race free. The cost for series registration is $150 for all seven races.

Q Do you track my points if I register for individual races?
A
No. We only track points for riders who have registered for the entire series. If you want to track your points so that you can compete for the overall title in your category, you will need to register for the whole series.

Q What is the Never Ever Category?
A
The Never Ever Category is a new category we added last year for bikers with no previous racing experience. It encourages newcomers to give the race series a try at a reduced rate. The costs are $15 for pre-registration and $25 day-of. The Never Ever Category will be available during the Hammer in the Hay, Eagle Ranch Classic and Davos Dash races. After that point, Never Ever riders, who wish to continue racing in the remaining events, can compete in the Beginner Category. No team or individual points will be accrued in the Never Ever category, and riders can only ride in the category for one season.

Q I have a 12-year-old who is a strong rider and wants a harder race than the 8 to 12 category?
A
The kids' race categories are based on skill level, not necessarily actual age. Any rider can race in the next older category if they choose to. A strong 10-year-old can race in the Juniors Category. Likewise, a Junior rider can race with the adults for more challenging competition. Many of the more serious young riders do this.

Q If I am a Junior and I race with the adults do I have to pay the adult registration?
A A Junior rider only pays the Junior fee unless they are racing in the Pro or Expert category. Regular registration fees are required for those categories because racers are competing for cash prizes.

Q Do I keep my number from the last race?
A Yes, if you are registered for the entire race series you will keep you hard plate, this is your number plate for the entire year. Even if you change categories you will still use the same number plate.

Q Can I change categories, and what happens to my overall points?
A Yes, you can change categories. If you change categories, you will start accruing points in your new category only. Your points from your original category will not transfer to the new category. You can only be in one category for the overall title.

Q When do I have to move up in a category?
We encourage riders to advance to a more competitive category after earning two first place finishes. However, riders may choose to move up or down in categories at any time.

Q What happens to my prize if I am not there to pick it up?
A If you want your prize, you must be present to claim it. All unclaimed prizes will be raffled off at the after party, except for the cash prizes for winners of the Pro and Expert Categories.

Q Do I need to ride with a helmet?
A Riders will not be allowed on the course without a certified mountain bike helmet. If this rule is broken the rider will be asked not to compete in VRD events.

Q Is the VRD Mountain Bike Series a sanctioned NORBA event and do we get NORBA Points?
A No, the VRD series is not a NORBA event. We provide our own insurance and our own points system for our race series. This is one of the many ways we work to keep costs affordable, and also allows more riders participate without requiring them to buy licenses they would not otherwise need.
